Their fall season in the books, the 2013 Princeton softball team introduces itself in the above video.
Saturday, Oct. 13, the Tigers wrapped their fall season with a 6-3, 8-1 doubleheader sweep of Delaware at the Class of 1895 Field. The wins came two weeks after the team split two games with Saint Joseph's and La Salle in Allentown, Pa.
In the first game against Delaware, Meredith Brown, Liza Kuhn and Sarah McGowan combined to help Princeton to the 6-3 win. Brown allowed one hit over three scoreless innings, while Kuhn gave up two runs on two hits in the fourth before following with a scoreless two frames, and McGowan closed out the last inning, allowing a solo home run on two hits.
At the plate, Princeton tied the opener at 2-2 in the fourth on three hits from Alyssa Schmidt, Emily Viggers and Rachel Rendina. Two innings later, Princeton took the lead with four runs, benefiting from two walks and three Blue Hen errors.
In the nightcap, freshman Shanna Christian gave up just one hit, a solo home run, over three innings while Alex Peyton gave up only a hit and a walk over the last four frames. Peyton drove in Danielle Allen for the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning, and a seven-run sixth inning put it away for Princeton. Maddie Cousens, McGowan, Candy Button, Rendina, Allen and Schmidt all had hits in the decisive frame.
The 2013 season, which will open in early March, sees the team add six freshmen to 13 returning players from last spring.
