Man charged with breaking into Burlington church

A New York man has been charged with breaking into a Burlington church.

Angel L. Velasquez Jr., 37, of Wythe Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged Sunday by Burlington police with breaking and entering a place of worship, larceny after breaking and entering, and a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed weapon. Bond was set at $5,000.

According to warrants, Velasquez is accused of breaking into Emmanuel United Methodist Church at 2331 LaVista Drive, on Saturday. He is accused of taking miscellaneous food items and tools, a pair of flip-flops and a microphone system, all with a total value of $530. Velasquez is also accused of carrying a concealed weapon ? a Crosman BB gun.

His first court appearance is Monday.
